How the calculator works out your number
The fence line is priced per linear foot. Each fence type has a low and a high installed price that comes from our own Ocala pricing: wood privacy runs $28 to $45 a foot, vinyl privacy $38 to $60, chain link $16 to $26, aluminum $35 to $58 and ornamental steel $55 to $110. The calculator multiplies your length by both ends of that range.
Shorter fences cost less per foot because they use less material and lighter framework. A 4 ft fence comes out roughly 20 to 25 percent under the same fence at 6 ft, and the calculator adjusts for that. Then it adds the extras that most online quotes leave out:
- Walk gates: about $450 to $900 each, installed with a braced frame.
- Double drive gates: $1,800 to $4,500 depending on width and material. See our driveway gate installation page.
- Old fence removal: $4 to $8 per foot for tear-out and haul-away.
- Permit: roughly $75 to $250 depending on whether your address is under the City of Ocala, another city or unincorporated Marion County.
Why your real quote can land outside the range
Most Ocala yards land inside the calculator range. A few things push a job above it. Marion County sits on limestone, and if the auger hits rock at 18 inches the footings need different tools. Loose sand near the lakes needs wider footings. Big live oaks mean hand digging around roots. If a truck cannot get close to the fence line, every post and bag of concrete gets carried in, and that is labor time.
Long runs work the other way. On acreage around Ocklawaha, Dunnellon and the horse farms north of Ocala, the per-foot price drops once you pass a few thousand feet, because setup costs get spread out. Our horse and farm fence page covers that in more detail.
